El trabajo del joven artista francés Cyprien Gaillard (Paris, 1980) se mueve entre la estética del Land Art y el romanticismo. Fotografías y vídeos en los que indaga  sobre los rastros que deja el hombre en la naturaleza. El paisaje, bien urbano o de naturaleza, es abordado por Cyprien Gaillard desde una perspectiva entrópica, en alusión al concepto ya anteriormente utilizado por Robert Smithson. El título de la exposición, Sediment Landscapes / Paisajes sedimentados, alude a dos ensayos escritos por el artista californiano: A sediemntation of the Mind: Herat Projects, (1968) y Frederick Law Olmsted and the Dialectical Landscape, (1973), donde Smithson explicaba su interés por la recuperación de las ideas sobre lo pintoresco. Cyprien Gaillard muestra a través de sus obras la relación entre la arquitectura contemporánea -entendida como una ruina moderna-, la naturaleza y el paisaje como eje fundamental en torno al que gira su trabajo. En la que será su primera exposición individual en España, Cyprien Gaillard mostrará grabados, pinturas, dibujos y dos vídeos, en los que aborda el paisaje como tema principal de la muestra.

 

French artist Cyprien Gaillard (Paris, 1980), a leading figure in his generation, is to hold his first solo exhibition for a Spanish institution at Laboratorio 987 in MUSAC. Under the title Sediment Landscapes / Paisajes sedimentados, the artist will display etchings, paintings, drawings and two videos, all dealing with landscapes.  The work produced by this young artist lies half way between the aesthetics of Land Art and Romanticism. His photographs and videos scrutinise the traces left by man on nature. Cyprien Galliard approaches landscapes, whether they be urban or rural, from an enthropic perspective, drawing on the concept coined by Robert Smithson. The exhibition title points to two essays where the Californian artist explores his ideas regarding the recovery of the picturesque: A sedimentation of the Mind: Herat Projects, published in 1968, and Frederick Law Olmsted and the Dialectical Landscape, published in 1973. Against this background, Cyprien Gaillard’s work places its main focus on revealing the relationship between contemporary architecture – perceived as a modern ruin –, nature and landscape.
